Critical highlights

  • When I made a complaint to customer service they took a week to respond and only responded after my second email!
  • When a consumer "cancels" an account, it is illegal and unethical to charge their credit card.
  • They used a different email address and when I caught the double billing and called them they refused to refund me.

“Excellent and legitimate adult dating site.”

I've had success with this site in the past. I've recent renewed my membership and continue to be impressed. I would highly recommend this. And also urge you to stay clear of fake sites such as Ashley Madison and Pure and Elite Singles.

“Annoying waste of time and money”

Tony R.
2/1/23

Useless service! I'm not picky, on J4Dates.com I'm getting many messages and having some dates, but Match has just been an annoying waste of time. They match you with outdated or fake profiles.Their matching questions system sounds good in theory but it fails in implementation, they match you with plenty of outdated or maybe even fake profiles who never respond to your messages. Their premium membership is an absolutely worthless thing as well. The biggest problems of Match are too many fake accounts and low activity of the few real ones.

Within 10 minutes of joining match, match shows me "highlights" of only super attractive, very good men, but then ask for money to send them likes. What a joke these dating sites are! And in the meantime, the people I am free to discover and send free likes to happen to not be very attractive.
Match knows what they're doing with this algorithm. It's wrong and I've lost respect for them. I don't believe they are truly in the business of matching people.

I am thinking many of these reviews are paid. Match was a horrible service that literally took 2+ months worth of subscript to match me with scammers. It is full of bots and algorithms that did not match my preferences. Please don't waste your time or money. As a money- making business- I'm sure they will find a way to filter this review. Dating is hard enough without people cashing out in our heartbreak. Match is not the only one.

Match is a complete ripoff. The app pays zero attention to your preferences. And I "upgraded" to Private Mode so only my likes would see me. It keeps me permanently in Private Mode, i. E. NO one sees my profile including my likes. Emailed support, took them 2 weeks to reply and they completely ignored this app defect. Messaged then a 2nd time and never heard back. Complete waste of money.

Tip for consumers:
Choose a different app!

Match looked like it was well run, until I was required to verify my account with my phone number. My landline number wouldn't work. I was told by their support, that I must have a cell phone. They wouldn't even accept my email address, like other dating sites.

Very few matches that met my requirements. Constant offers to "upgrade" to see better matches. When I cancelled my account I was suddenly matched with 2 people, one of which was an obvious bot asking about my experiences and the other looked legit - however it was deleted after 3 hours.

Tip for consumers:
Do not waste your time or money.

I should have just set my $108.00 on fire! What a joke. Don't waist your money. They do get rid of scammers quickly. The dating pool is small. Also anything you get with your premium subscription is just ONE a month. I'll never get my money back from these cons!

Tip for consumers:
Don't waist your valuable time or money!

Not only does it not live up to the hype, few if any matches. But I cancelled the subscription 2 weeks in, but they won't let me out for 3 months. They want me to pay whether I use it or not. I had tried this site about 3-4 years ago. It wasn't good then, but I figured I'd give it another shot. Boy was I wrong. Don't waste your money, because that's exactly what it s. Money down the toilet!

Tip for consumers:
Don't do it.

Match.com is full of liars, and most of the women you email, won't even text you back, even if they are a subscriber, and you paid for the reply option. I blocked over 200 scammers, and no reply losers. You're better off going to a bar, or a brothel. These disfunctional idiots can't function in the real world, that's why they are on Match.com

Tip for consumers:
Save your money and avoid Match.com It's a waste of time and money.

Navigating the Match.com website is worse. In fact, it's pretty close to impossible.
If you see someone you're interested in writing to, be careful... if you leave their profile page, it's next to impossible to get back to it.

Match sends out an almost daily email that says, "45 people have looked at your profile!' Hmmmmm. Is that supposed to be a good thing?... because while 45 people may have looked... zero have written. (Maybe Match should re-think that email. I would definitely stay away from this site.

After the first week I tried to quit, but I'd inadvertently signed up for three months. Getting out is a lot harder than getting in.

Don't do it!

Tip for consumers:
Don't use this site.
It is really frustrating
and the odds of
meeting someone
are very low.
Choose another
dating site... not
one of the many
owned by Match.

Good luck!

In my experience Match.com should be called Match.con because that is what it is, I was tricked into subscribing a membership and now they say I can`t cancel my subscription, they are taking money out of my account without my permission, I did not sign any contract. The dating site is full of fake profiles, but when you report them they still are not deleted, in fact they keep visiting your own profile. Match.com is a complete waste of money and I would warn anybody not to join and be ripped off like me.

Tip for consumers:
Certainly avoid this dating site. It`s nothing more than a con

Been paying for several months and have been set up with several scammers. They say they do a check but it took me 2 minutes to look up the phone number and find out they were not who they said they were. Will not use the site again as you can meet just as many scammers on other free sites.

Match.com is a hub for scammers. Match.com is the reason I lost $1.2 million. They match me with a scammer named Frank Mason. Match.com did not give me any tips or warning of scam. I thought that since they are charging money they would screen their members. Match.com sent me tips and warnings after all my money was taken from me. They do not want to take any responsibility. I contacted them many times and no response. I contacted lawyers and no one would fight Match.com. I guess I am just a little person trying to fight big company for justice. My local law enforcement investigated my case they said that my money was sent somewhere in Ghana via Bitcoins. I am living paycheck to paycheck because of Match.com. I was put to mental institution because of depression, panic attack and tremors. I have experience driving on a freeway and just hitting the wall or a big tree to end my life. One lesson I learned -- avoid any online dating sites esp. Match.com. If I could give a rating of -*******, I would do so. Be careful. I do not want anyone to go thru what I am experiencing now.

Tip for consumers:
Be careful especially to all the women. I don't want anyone to experience what I am going thru. My life will never be the same.

Complete ripoff, fraud of a site. Had no access to my paid subscription. They wouldn't help and refused to refund. Their Customer service number had no live agent, their chat takes hours to respond but even when they do they're unhelpful. Paid for a membership on Dec 2, today is Dec 6, and they refused to refund me but was fine about canceling the paid membership. Dont get scam, stay away from this site!

Beware! There is no real customer support. No human to talk to. I have been trying to cancel for three months. I stayed logged in so I forgot my password. When I select "forgot my password" the system tells me it has sent me a link to reset. That link never comes. When I email customer support they reply with a bunch of jibberish that doesn't even apply to my concern or tell me to do all of the things I have already done. You can't get out. It's HORRIBLE! There are good, responsible dating sites out there. Match is not one. For example, try OUR TIME. While on that site I needed assistance a couple of times. I could call and talk with a real person and when I was ready to cancel and forgot my password all I had to do was call and someone helped me and everything was resolved in less than 5 minutes. Not MATCH. Do yourself a favor and stay far far away!

Tip for consumers:
DON'T

Paid for 3-mo premium membership, can't see pictures, can't see messages, called help line, spent 20 minutes being led through app after app page, wanted to send me a dummy amount, then have me send back to them to reset my account. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY! NOT WORTH IT!

At first I thought I snagged a deal ($80 for three months of premium) but it is a nightmare. I think I've had one match in 50 days. The boost did absolutely nothing. My profile is fine. I've sent tons of messages. Nothing. What a complete scam. And to think I had this service many years ago and had success while paying so much less.

Most of the men who contacted me acted like catfishers. It was easy for me to tell they were scammers because they told me I have a beautiful smile. I never smile in a photograph. At my age, scammers think they can con their way into our lives and steal valuable things. Not this gal. Maybe this site works for younger women, but if you are over 40 BEWARE!

Tip for consumers:
First of all, I asked for only Caucasian men I do not have a racist bone in my body, but I only date white men why they constantly let men of color inbox me, and like my profile, that was one thing of just the few of why this site sucks !

So, I had been looking for someone for awhile, and spent the time to fully fill out a profile, and paid the subscription fee. I was wondering why no one was responding to any of my messages. Well apparently the subscription does NOT allow for free users to reply to subscribed users without the subscribed user paying more for that service. So in effect you not only have to pay to be able to use it in ANY way, you also hope that anyone your interested in is also a subscriber, and if that cutie is not a subscriber well looks like your paying even more for that person to be even capable of replying.

Tip for consumers:
Avoid

Match when free has good matches who respond once in a great while. Lots of romantic scammers out there though. When you pay they send photos to you of old years back customets. When you do not pay they send the latest but they do not let you respond to them unless you pay them. They have a choke collar on you. This is a very bad daring site.

The best recommendation I can give is to avoid this lame pile of junk. Match is full of con artists who keep asking you for $ and gift cards. I was searching for a legit site and I was shocked when I saw
http://J4Dates.com
Testimonials: there was a picture of my old friend with a beautiful woman. I never trusted those testimonials. Nevertheless I gave my friend a call and he confirmed that he had met his wife there. Wow, that was pretty shocking but also inspiring. Anyway, I deiced to give it one final shot. I'm glad I did! Two more months have passed and I went to Poland to meet three women. Fell in love at first sight with one of them. Words are not enough to describe how happy I am now that my search is finished. Enjoying that freshly brewed coffee in bed and a hot kiss that comes with it every morning. Enjoying making that juicy bbq for her. Enjoying wine dinners with her. Life is beautiful! Just believe in it and also use your common sense and avoid obviously scammy sites and time-wasting apps like Match! Don't let these money-hungry rogues rip you off!

Complete rip off. They bill 8 months on a six month membership and make it difficult to stop being billed. Search criteria is a total scam and forces you to view only people they want and are clearly not compatible. This site is designed to steal your money. Just terrible and should be shut down over the financial scams alone!

Q&A (58)

Question:

I was paying monthly then received my current credit card bill. they billed me $215. when i called to ask why, they said my contract included an automatic renewal of the upcoming year's full amount all at one time. she repeatedly told me it is clearly stated that this payment is non-refundable. no advance warning they were going to do this. i repeated asked that they cancel my account and refund my money, as it was for the upcoming year, not the past one. she just kept telling me the money is non-refundable. this is a terrible way to do business and treat your customers. has anyone who has had this experience been able to recover their money?

Answer:

I was unable to get a refund but I dispute the transaction and got my money back that way. I said it was because they were not providing the service they claim to offer. If you can dispute with your bank just tell them you didn't authorize the transaction and the company refuses to refund you. Good luck.

Question:

Is this a trustworthy site?

Answer:

No I would not trust it. There are scammers on there. They will tell you want you want to here. They are from another country. Look for key words such as widoer, contractor, travel, one child only. They will compliment you right off the bat about your smile. Not safe. Try another site.

Question:

How to i get them to refund me, when they said i was getting a month free. of course they have no records of this.

Answer:

Back in the 1980s, strip clubs were pulling all sorts of over charge and fake charge scams and forcing people tp pay. Here in Atlanta a majpr federal case against the GOLD CLUB brought all that to light and alot of changes were made in the industry... I BRING THAT UP BECAUSE... these social sites seem to be attempting the same types of scams and are getting away with it. By U.S. fedeal standars ALL THESE SITES FALL UNDER THE RACKETEERING STATUTE. Unfortunately there is NO enforcement of these laws at this time. Your best option is to dispute the entire charge with your credit card. They may not want to do this because they are seeing so much of it. BE FIRM AND INSIST IT IS A MATTER OF CREDIT FRAUD. Also be sure to indicate that you are filling a consumer notice with the Federal Trade Commision (they have online forms for this to keep a numbers count on how many people are affected by these sorts of things. www.FTC.org). If you have been a good card holder, you shouldnt have any issues except for 1: ALL THESE SITES ARE NOTORIOUS FOR REBILLING/DRAFTING YOUR CREDIT ACCOUNT. You may want to file a COMPROMISED CREDIT CARD CLAIM AT THE TIME OF THE DISPUTE and have your card issuer SEND YOU A REPLACEMENT CARD WITH A NEW CARD NUMBER.

Question:

I am very disappointed with having joined a week ago. the matches are not in line with what i have requested on my profile. i have received very little responses from what appears as active prospects. i would like to cancel my membership. i was a member back in 2004 and found it very successful and nothing to compare with my experience this time. i would like my questions answered… thank you for your time. terri179

Answer:

You will have a hard time getting your money back Terri. The first time I was with them years ago, I forgot the auto renewal and tried to get my money back and they fought me tooth and nail. This time I tried both Ourtime and Match and both experiences were not good though Ourtime was a bit better. I agree with some of the answers here that Match baits you toward the end of your subscription with possible contacts, but since I cannot proof that I have to add that disclaimer. Everything you have run into with your experience I have had with mine.

Question:

I thought i was signing on for one month. and match charged me for the year. how can i get my money back? i have previously ask this question and did not receive a response..

Answer:

You likely signed up for auto-renewal, which Match.com doesn't explicitly tell you out-right that it will auto-renew. You will not likely get a refund back for the month they charged you. However, go to your account's settings and cancel the feature ASAP. You will still have access for the month in question, but at least you will have stopped future withdrawals.

Question:

I keep sending messages and no response from anyone and someone told me that my email did not deliver to the recipient

Answer:

The first thing you need to understand (if you haven't already discovered it on match) is that none of your letters will be read unless the recipient is a FULLY PAID member. Even though you have paid to be a member you are still not able to contact the other person. There is a option available to you but it's pretty much extortion on the part of Match. You can pay an additional monthly fee where all of your mail is delivered and they can read and reply back to you. Apart from that I can't really give you any other answers other than don't renew with this site.

Question:

Why do the women do not respond to me when i match what they are looking for? i sent over 400 e-mails and only got 14 responses (10 were scammers)

Answer:

It is because there are not any real people on match.com. Most of the profiles are fakes, or they are people who may have once been on the site and now their profiles are used as bait to get you to sign up and pay, thinking there are actual matches that could be made. Also a lot of the profiles are people who have not actually signed up and paid so they could not even get back to you if they wanted (unless they too pay for the privilege of sending an email reply). Do not sign up! This is an unethical site that does a bait and switch to get money out of you and others and does not delivery on any promises. Most of the profiles are cons trying to get something from you. This site should be shut down!

Question:

I'm just wondering how profiles get shown on the site. i am a pretty attractive female and have a lot to offer. i have received emails from only 7 men since joining match.com in november and none of them were even in my age group. it also seems like days go by without a notification that anyone has even looked at my profile. this really just seems strange to me. is that normal?

Answer:

I feel the same way Teresa, i have been on the site for 1 year now and cancelled my subscription, but was told it won't officially cancel until May because i waited to late after my initial sign up day, so i got stuck with another year. I am a handsome guy with a lot to offer, but for some reason never really got emails as i expected, i started to think the people profiles were fake or the women i was interested in didn't know a good man if his profiled slapped them in the face, just sayN. 41, recently divorced for little over a year, highly educated, working in my profession, make close to six figures, single, don't cheat, great personality, smart, don't play, and real down to earth... but i guess no one believed it or didn't like my handsome picks... IDK. Confused!
