The trick is that if you are doing a promo, your credit for bad food isn't applied until your first fill-price box. I think they basically have to do that so that people don't abuse the system. But when you're a full-paying customer, in my experience the customer service is totally fine. Every recipe card has a QR code and if you scan it and explain what the problem was with your order, you get refunded for that ingredient. I have only done this with some missing noodles and some rotten broccoli, but it was a simple process. Also once the whole box arrived warm and I called and complained and they gave me a credit for the whole box. I am a huge fan of the meal box concept as a whole; i love using as few brain cells as possible while making dinner, and most of the recipes are really good.
I signed up for hellofresh a week ago and my first box came with the wrong food. They said I should just wait for another box and they won't charge me for it. But in 2 days I got charged 140$! And they said it happened by mistake and the charge will go for a payment for another box. I was charged 3 times (170$ in total) but didn't get any food! I asked to refund my money back and cancel the subscription but they refused and just sent me 35$… My bank is investigating this situation right now. Dishonest business!

I am so sick of receiving HelloFresh coupons in the mail. I have repeatedly asked that they stop sending me things in the mail. I tried HelloFresh ONCE. I was missing a whole meal! I told them about this and they couldn't issue a refund for me. I cancelled my subscription and they did multiple things to try to make me stay. I have emailed them multiple times telling them to take me off of the mail list. They still continue to send me things in the mail!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t use hello fresh
It took me 3 times before my order was properly cancelled and only after they sent me a box I did not want. Sub standard communications, customer service reps speak very poor English and do not deviate from their set dialogue. Also sick of the substitutions they conveniently don't let you know until you have the box. No updated menus saw me with lots of celery (I hate celery) left over.
They have to have the worst billing explanation I have ever seen, it's very confusing, I was suppose to receive the hero discount, it applied it then they charged the full amount when they billed plus another upgrade charge. Customer service was horrible and just said "that verification comes from another website" and you can only get one discount so another one was applied" which was a higher charge. Don't use the company! The food was good but it was very expensive for what you get!
Tip for consumers:
Pay very close attention to your bank statements and billing
I recently tried to order what I thought were premade dinners for my elderly mother. Upon realizing that this is not what I was ordering--the information on the site was ambiguous--I attempted to cancel the order. The technological programming makes it very hard to cancel--it locks you in to a subscription. Having failed initially to cancel, I noted that I had until 11:59 the next day to cancel. I succeeded in cancelling around 11:30 pm and received notification it was cancelled. In following up to confirm, I was told that I was able to cancel the subscription, but not the initial meals despite fulfilling 11:59 contractual statement of the corporation. It required three phone calls to get explanation--the first two people hung up on me. This is a company that no doubt has designed a program to rob you and deceive you at multiple steps and does nothing to behave in a just fashion--it breaches its own contractual stipulations without apology. I suggest you avoid this corporation and look to services elsewhere. Unfortunately, they seem to be modelled after numerous others that "program" this kind of injustice and straightforward robbery under the guise of a multinational corporation. In the end, they simply spat on an elderly woman trying to eat--shameful to say the least. Zero stars is more appropriate along with litigation--ideally, in the form of a class action suit.
Hello Fresh has a 50% chance of making an error with your weekly meal kit. Either they pack the wrong menu item or about 80% of time there will be missing ingredients. I've been a customer 2 years and they promise to "look into" these problems, yet they occur almost WEEKLY. Also, if there is a holiday they will often mis ship date by 2 or 3 full days. Try Instacart and order your own stuff. That gets there faster and is cheaper
Tip for consumers:
Try another company if you want accuracy in your order

As consumers, we should be able to review meals and confirm the order before we are charged! BEWARE. Don't follow the prompts to look at meals - you will be charged and food will be delivered even without confirming you want it! Every plate and hello fresh are one in the same - I got scammed by both just trying to find a meal plan that suites me!
Tip for consumers:
Don’t follow the prompts just to see their menus! You will be charged and food you didn’t even select will be delivered … there is no refund! This is awful for all consumers!

None. I can’t eat what they offer b/c it’s not part of my diet. They charge you and send whatever they want w/o confirming the purchase!
Avoid at all costs, unless you enjoy paying for a product then not receiving it. My first box was delivered to an unknown address. Instead of them applying the 50% off on the first box on my next order, they tell me that all they can do is give me a credit for the future after the current offer has expired. Fast forward to box # 6 and guess what? Also missing. My deliveries are due on Mondays. I get an email stating that this week's delivery would be delayed due to the holiday and that it would arrive on Tuesday Jan. 3. Well, the box did not arrive and when I try to get a refund, some customer service representative in Columbia (the country) tells me that they cannot process a refund. I'm stuck waiting for the box even though they cannot tell me if and when it will arrive. Hands down, worst customer service experience. Sad really because the meals were good. I have the chat transcript to prove the nonsense.
This company is Horrible about getting orders correct and they are NEVER gluten sensitive. I get the wrong meals delivered every time.
Tip for consumers:
Only good for people who can eat dairy and gluten

They take your money before they let you choose your meals. I tried to change the box when they included pork in my menu- even though I specifically selected pork as a protein that I do not eat. When I called customer service to get it changed, she compared me to a "child who is picky." I was outraged, and she disconnected the call before I could report it on the customer survey. There is no way to speak to a supervisor, and there's no way to set it right. They've taken my money, and don't seem to care that they are sending food that I cannot eat. BEWARE. There's a reason why they are offering so many coupons: their service and their food is terrible. STAY AWAY.
Tip for consumers:
Just stay away. There's a reason why they are offering so many coupons and discount codes. They're a TERRIBLE company

The items they send are always very close to their expiry date. I've ordered 5 meals and all of them were due to expire within 3 days of arrival - looks like they are cutting costs by using not-so-fresh ingredients.
Also, there are packaging bits like insulation pads that are not recyclable and it is appalling that they do not collect those back - it is not an environmentally friendly business.
ZERO STARS! Customer service hung up on me twice, the third gentleman at least acknowledged the system was screwed up.
Even though I prepicked my orders for several weeks out, their system WILL change your order the week of. I was told the "easiest" thing for me to do is just make sure I recheck the order just before the cutoff. Ummmm... I need to watch your program to ensure you don't change my meals? I paid over $117 this week and only received 3 meals, 2 of which I can't even eat.
Customer service could see my meals were changed and only offered a credit through HelloFresh. I've cancelled the service after 13 weeks. This has happened twice and I'm sick of it! Looking for recommendations for a meal delivery service ASAP.
Well I look at my bank account on Christmas day and I'm being charged they are closed and you can't go online to change your meals which is Joke cause if my payment doesn't go through. Now the selection is limited each week and what you may like is Premium choice which is Premium price.nVery disappointed in company that supposedly give health choices NOt

If I could rate Hello Fresh a zero I would. They took money almost a hundred dollars out of my account without my knowledge. Customer service is a joke. They can't help you. The food is not that good. The food was not that fresh in the past. You are pretty much stuck with whatever they send you. Be aware if you activate your membership big mistake. They will take money out of your account immediately. Please throw those coupons away and block their email. Don't be sorry like I am. RUN!
We initially liked this service a great deal. However, recently food has been arriving in poor condition - either squished due to poor packaging and even rotting produce. Additionally, we've had experiences with boxes arriving later than promised which leads to last-minute changes in plans. It's unfortunate that things have gone downhill so significantly as the service used to be quite good.
Super annoying that you have to add your bank details before you can peruse the menu, giving no choice but be committed to the purchase. There was nothing we wanted to eat so we didn't order any meals, naively presuming I would be refunded, but that didn't happened. Five random meals arrived, and were left on my doorstep whilst I was out, I live on a very busy road so I had to rush home to take them inside before they were stolen. I really did not enjoy any of the meals. Most of the food ended up in the bin. The whole process was stressful and I certainly wouldn't bother with them again
Stopped my meals the month I graduated college, 13 months later my credit card was billed $400 and they was sending meals to my old address. When I called them they said I started it back up. The only thing that could've happened is the person living there got mail sent from them and started it back up. After numerous times trying to get my money back for food I didn't pay or received they wouldn't do nothing. So my suggestion is to never buy from this company. It's a total scam and their customer service sucks!
I honestly enjoyed HelloFresh since it saved me a trip to the grocery store. Randomly we would receive the wrong meals all together or we would be missing items. Wasn't honestly that big of a deal. Well recently I started noticing random separate charges to my bank account from hello fresh on top of what my box should cost. It ranged from 9-24 dollars. I couldn't figure it out and the website is nearly impossible to navigate when it comes to customer complaints. I would not recommend.
I will admit that I thought every one of HelloFresh's meals I ordered tasted good, and is something I would make again. The pricing is more affordable with discount codes, but those are easy to find so I was happy with the cost. That being said, the shipping needs improvement. The ice keeps everything very cold, but they place the meat loosely in packaging at the bottom, which causes the packaging of it to open up very easily. One of my boxes had this happen, and I will say customer service was more than helpful and ended up sending me a whole new replacement order for free and let me keep both. It makes for a fun date night or an easy meal alternative to eating out, but it does create a lot of waste and I don't think it's sustainable enough to order on a consistent basis. Overall, I would recommend trying it even once!
So so so so many problems so I'll just mention the most important ones:
I received 4 gift cards for Hello Fresh from my family this Christmas, and I saw they had the 22 free meals + free shipping promo. I've never used Hello Fresh before, so when I tried to use the promo and my gift card, it would only apply one or the other (the promo or my gift card). I called customer service, and the rep on the line told me to use my gift card and that she will apply the promo after I add my credit card. I follow through, but she does not add the promo and said it is impossible to add. She lied to me so that I would now have a purchase on my account and can never use a Hello Fresh promo in the future (since they are only for first-time purchasers).
My invoices never added up to the right numbers, the charges never made any sense, and I had to check my Hello Fresh account every single day to make sure they did not over-charge me (by randomly deleting out my gift cards), change out my meals after I already chose which ones I wanted, or unsubscribe me entirely but still charge me for the box. For example, I bought 4 boxes, each with 4 recipes for 4 people each. When I purchased them on my account, it clearly states the boxes are $137.83 including the 9.99 delivery fee. I had 3 $115 gift cards and 1 $140 gift card. For some reason I had to pay $43.63 for the first box, $22.83 for the second, and $0 for the last two boxes. If this company was honest and true, I should have owed $525.36 total, and with $551.46 in payment and gift cards, I should have $26.10 left over for my 5th box. I also got $20.45 in credit due to the mushrooms being rotten, so $46.55 total to spend. However, on my invoices for each week, the numbers changed randomly and I only had $23.75 left over to use. One box charged my $148.64 + $10.99 shipping, another charged me $127.84, etc. Such a shady practice! I never knew how much my bill would be or what would actually arrive in my box. When I asked customer service to explain where the random charges were coming from, they said they didn't know but I could call back and ask someone else. Every time I open my hello fresh account, the cost changes. I've included the proof in photos below.
On top of it all, the recipe cards were not helpful at all. For someone who has never really cooked before, simply writing "dice the tomatoes," "pour a splash of oil," and "cook until cooked through" without any photos or descriptions can be very confusing.
On the health front, even the "Fit & Wholesome" recipes have 1050-2050 mg of sodium in them, and the lowest calorie dishes are still 800 calories each! Because the sauces come in little packets, there is no way to lower the sodium on my own.
TLDR: Shady payment practices and promo lies, confusing recipe cards, and unhealthy meals.

The food and recipes are good, when things work. However, if you have a single problem with your order, it's pretty much impossible to get anyone to help remedy it. I've called 5 times and I'm always told a supervisor will call me back in 24 -48 hours. This never happens. I've resorted to disputing charges with my credit card company instead, since I cannot ever speak with someone to get my issues resolved. I recommend staying away.
I am a trucker. I was delivering to hello fresh product to the Atlanta headquarters. I spent 6 hours and no one was available for letting me know when they would take there product off the truck. Before I was told that they had no room to get there product. So this order of food would be older just sitting on the truck. Hello spoiled should be the name of this company. Do not trust you are better off with out even thinking of trying there products. Now there are 6 trucks waiting with food on them! Be ware!
Tip for consumers:
Do not use, trucker.

My husband and I enjoyed Hello Fresh our first few meals. After this, my husband asked me to cancel our food delivery. I found it totally difficult to figure out how to do this. Another batch of food arrived, although I thought I had said to stop delivery, my bank account was charged, etc. I have requested at least 4-5 times for Hello Food to stop this charge on my bank account and delivery. Is this some SCAM? Anyone else have similar experiences? I will NEVER suggest Hello Fresh to anyone.
I'm not sure how they can say "fresh and healthy" when the sauces are ladden with corn syrup, sugar and soy, the ground meat is high in fat, a lot of the side ingredients are not the best/highest quality. I ordered 2 - four serving dishes and made them all together (so 8 servings) and barely had a cup leftover after 2 adults and 3 children (7,8 & 10) ate. The pork tacos had me burping and suffering from heartburn the next 12 hrs., I'm guessing from the soy or corn syrup as I don't buy/serve either to my family. Gross & not worth it.

Please call 646-846-3663 so we can help answer any questions you may have. Thanks
I signed up and realised its a scam - your first order is only able to be placed 2 weeks away, meaning they get your money even if you use a coupon... and from other reviews they won't let you cancel. I just registered a voucher, saw the dates and tried to cancel... and can't - there is no "cancel" on their website
They use very unreliable delivery service and miss 2 out of 3 deliveries and you can't get through on their customer service number to get a refund. They put you on hold and you listen to music until you hang up. They never answer. Try them but good luck getting your money back when they don't show up.
I had to cancel the plan because when paused they continued to ship. They continued to ship despite customer service noting it was indeed canceled. I disputed the last charge on my card because of this. They had it reversed. NEVER EVER AGAIN. Don't do it!
You will still have to pay for delivery and such because this company says those things cannot be covered by a gift card. Beware signing up, because they will subscribe you as soon as you enter credit card information. It is in their Terms and Conditions at the beginning of the process.
Yes, since they don't answer their phone you can't cancel your subscription. And since they use a very unreliable delivery service, every 2nd or 3rd delivery, your food doesn't show up When you call their phone number you can't get through.
